The Estate of Fort Augustus Abbey
The Highland Club estate is set within 20 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds on the southern shores of Loch Ness. It occupies the Grade A gothic buildings of the original 1729 English fortification, Fort Augustus, which later on were transformed into St Benedict’s Abbey.
The Highland Club is unique, steeped in centuries of Scottish history and is a special place to stay – either on a self-catering holiday or as an owner of one of the magnificent luxury residences.
The Highland Club has amenities exclusively for use by those who are staying including an indoor pool, steam and sauna, the club lounge and snooker room. Within the grounds there is a tennis court and many other facilities including a cricket pitch!
The Boathouse Restaurant with its exclusive Loch side view is available both to the guests and the local community alike.
The Highland Club was developed over a number of years and the Abbey Church conversion was finally completed in 2012. It is a unique residential opportunity consisting of 97 apartments and 12 cottages for a fantastic holiday or a beautiful home on the shores of iconic Loch Ness – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
From here the opportunities are limitless – from the more typical activities of walking, cycling, golf, sailing, fishing, shooting, ski-ing (in winter) and bird watching to the more unusual such as dog sledding and Munro Bagging; the list is as long as it is varied.
Not every weekend has to focus on the great outdoors. The Highland Club itself is a centre for more leisurely pursuits with table tennis, badminton, croquet, boules, 5-a-side football and, on a summer afternoon, what could be nicer than a challenging game of giant chess on the cloistered lawn?
Days of marathon walks and clear highland air are rewarded with relaxation and good conversation. Look forward to mellow evenings in your apartment or in the elegant Club Lounge, sharing the day’s stories and planning the next day’s exploration.
The Highland Club is managed by a team of helpful on site staff who are overseen by the ever friendly Highland Club Manager, Mark Dallas.
